About

Virginia Rural Water Association is an affiliate state of the National Rural Water Association (NRWA). As such, VRWA incorporated in Virginia in 1988 as a non-profit, 501 (c3) corporation. VRWA’s primary purpose is to provide training and educational opportunities and on-site technical and managerial assistance to the hundreds of small and rural water and wastewater utilities across the Commonwealth. All of these utilities serve under 10,000 populations. We hope you find this website helpful and full of information to assist you in your day-to-day operations. If you have any suggestions of how we may make this site better please email us under Contact Us.

VRWA is made up of a three-person office in Buena Vista and field staff made up of six individuals. These six individuals travel all over the state helping water, wastewater, groundwater, and source water systems. Our field staff includes a board development specialist, two water circuit riders, and two wastewater technicians, Source Water Protection Specialist. The office staff includes a financial office assistant, office support/administrative assistant, and an executive director. Together we are all here to assist our members in every way possible. In addition, VRWA provides networking and representation to rural utilities, and also disseminates information through our publication of a quarterly magazine (StreamLine).

Another important asset to our members is that VRWA serves as a voice between our member systems and our legislators. We work hard to keep abreast of any legislative bills that may have an effect on our systems both good and bad. We offer our voice to speak either against or for those issues in order to better serve our membership.

Training is offered throughout the state during the course of the year to all our members free of charge. Training is not just limited to water but also wastewater, groundwater, source water, security vulnerability, and emergency management. VRWA also host each year an annual exposition where members are able to visit with over 100 vendors and attend over 50 + classes. We also provide one-day operators expo, were operators are able to use the “hands on” technique in today’s heavy equipment.

Now with all this said we at VRWA hope you and your systems will take advantage of our services and give us a call. We will be happy to assist you.
