Line Location and Leak Detection

Course Description: Participants will learn the principles and practices associated with effective Line Location and Leak Detection, along with factors that can affect both. Use of typical location and leak detection equipment will be discussed and demonstrated. Financial Justification for Leak Detection will also be discussed, including the use of Water Loss Spreadsheets.

Topics to be covered but are not limited to: Pipe locators and how they work; How to improve your line locating ability; Leak detectors and how they work; What types of equipment are available and how they are best employed; Leak detection strategies and tips. Also financial justification for leak detection (how to make the case to your board or council to fund and support a leak detection program); How to perform water audits (spreadsheet software provided). Participants are encouraged to bring actual production, production cost, and billing figures for in-class exercises.
