Description The Virginia Rural Water Association Electricity Course is a six (6) hour course designed to instill respect and remove fear for Water and Wastewater Operators. This course will not make electricians out of operators but will assist them in understanding the operation of much of their equipment and clarify when to call for professional electrical help.

The morning session will be entirely theoretical and will cover the following topics: 1. Static Electricity 2. Alternating and Direct Current 3. Current 4. Sources of Electricity 5. Electro-Magnets 6. Current Meters 7. Voltage 8. Current-Voltage Relationships 9. Transformer Theory 10. Phase 11. Resistance 12. Ohm’s Law 13. Voltage Drop 14. Electrical Safety 15. Lock-Out/Tag-Out 16. Intro to Arc-Flash

The afternoon session will discuss the theory and operation of: 1. Fuses 2. Circuit Breakers 3. Lock-Out/Tag-Out 4. Fuse Checking 5. Circuit Breaker Operation 6. Motor Windings 7. Multimeter Operations 8. Multimeter Practicum
