Course Description: 

          Part 1: Sampling & Monitoring for Small Systems (3.0 CPE's)
          Part 2: Liquid Chemical Feed Systems (3.5 CPE's)

 

Topics to be covered but are not limited to:

Part 1: According to USEPA, the greatest numbers of compliance issues surrounding small water systems are related to sampling and reporting.  This session will discuss and demonstrate proper sampling techniques, sampling schedules, reporting and recordkeeping.

 

Part 2: This session will povide operators with instruction on how to accurately calculate liquid chemical feed dosages in addition to instructing them on how to go from a "trial and error" method for feeder setting to creating  and using calibration graphs for confidently and preciselysetting feeders. Participants will discuss basic metering pump types, troubleshooting tips, and have the opportunity to rebuild both diaphragm and peristaltic metering pumps.  Basic fluoride saturator operation will also be discussed.

  • From Abingdon: US-19 N to Exit #1/LEBANON. Go 0.2 mi and Turn Left onto Green Valley Rd (US-19-BR N). Go 0.3 mi and turn into Lebanon Town Offices. Community Center is located directly behind Town Offices.
  • From Coeburn: Take US-58-ALT E to St. Paul. Turn Left onto VA-640 and go approximately 2.3 mi to VA-615; Bear Right onto VA-615. Go 0.2 mi and continue on Reeds Valley Rd. Go 5.2 mi and Bear Right onto VA-614. Go 3.2 mi and Turn Left onto VA-71 (Trail of The Lonesome Pine). Take VA-71 into Lebanon and Turn Right onto MAIN ST (US-19-BR N). Go 0.3 mi and turn into Lebanon Town Offices. Community Center is located directly behind Town Offices.
  • From Tazewell: Take US-19 S to 1st Lebanon Exit (Exit 1/LEBANON). Go 0.3 mi and Turn Right onto MAIN ST (US-19-BR N). Go 0.3 mi and turn into Lebanon Town Offices. Community Center is located directly behind Town Offices.
  • Parking: Park in the lot behind the town offices and walk over to Community Center.

Leesburg

Leesburg Public Utilities Maintenance Building

  • From Tyson Corner: Take Route 7 West towards Leesburg. After you cross over the Goose Creek Bridge, you will go through two traffic lights. After the light at River Creek Parkway get in the left lane; at your next crossover you will make a left (you will see a flower nursery on the right where you turn). If you go to the next traffic light (past the nursery), you’ll have gone too far. After making the left-hand turn, proceed down the service road and take a right at the bottom of the hill; follow that road past the Wastewater Plant until it ends.
  • From Points South: Take Rt 15 North towards Leesburg. Take the RT 7/15 Bypass East towards Tyson Corner. You will go through a traffic light at Sycolin Rd. Then you will see an exit ramp for Rt. 7 East; take the ramp onto Rt.7 East. After you get on 7, you go through 2 traffic lights. After Battlefield Parkway you will take a right onto an unmarked service road (no street sign). You will see a brown sign stating “Town of Leesburg Public Works Facility, Water Pollution Control Facility.” Proceed down the service road and take a right at the bottom of the hill; follow that road past the Wastewater Plant until it ends.
  • From Winchester: Take Rt 7 East. Take the 4th exit, which continues onto Rt. 7 East (it will be after you go through the Sycolin Rd traffic light). After the exit putting you back on Rt. 7, go through 2 traffic lights. After Battlefield Parkway you will take a right onto an unmarked service road (no street sign). You will see a brown sign stating “Town of Leesburg Public Works Facility, Water Pollution Control Facility.” Proceed down the service road and take a right at the bottom of the hill; follow that road past the Wastewater Plant until it ends.
  • From Points North: Take Rt 15 South towards Leesburg. Take Bypass 15/7 around town. Proceed until you see the exit for Rt 7 East. You will go under the bridge and loop around on to 7 East. Go through two traffic lights; after Battlefield Parkway you will take a right onto an unmarked service road (no street sign). You will see a brown sign stating “Town of Leesburg Public Works Facility, Water Pollution Control Facility.” Proceed down the service road and take a right at the bottom of the hill; follow that road past the Wastewater Plant until it ends.
